Remove OnStar antenna & XM Satellite Radio antenna

ok, @Fosscore --- i sat there and stared at your Post(s)

i sat there reading your walkthrough and i was like.. hmm.
then i was like nah. then i was like, pssh, might as well. haha. so.. thanks for the motivational push -- here we go.

that night i opened my sunroof and tried to see if i could do anything without pulling the headliner. (nope!)
the little shine you see is the unaccessible nut on the right antenna

d312.jpg

i spent more time debating and whining about it than it took to get them off.

let's tear it apart.
(Using a T-10 Torx for almost every screw i show you)
3 screws on the left, 1 on the right to drop the Left sun visor

d313.jpg

i thought the overhead console would be a pain. not at all. One screw near the windshield in the center front and then it's just a nice firm pull south to release all the plastic clips that hold it in.
(i let all this stuff just dangle by the way)

d314.jpg

on the drivers side under where the visor was, you will see a circle plug, pop it out and there is another screw to take out

d315.jpg

same with the passenger visor, 3 on the right, one screw on the left etc..

Pull the grey weatherstrip half off the sunroof and... access is granted!

d316.jpg

The nut right in the middle holds it all on. I think it was a 10mm but both mine were only finger-tight. So here is looking through from the drivers side and the headliner pulled down a little.
But i used the opening through the sunroof to get my arm in there to do everything on both sides.

d317.jpg

once i got the nut off, pulled the lil gold anchor off too. Then i went from the roof and wiggled back and forth as i pulled it up and through. cut the wires and taped them off and pushed them back into the hole

d318.jpg

OnStar guts

d319.jpg

same for the right side. very similar type of attachment situation.

XM out

Filling Holes Without Welding

it was at this point i figured, man, i'm bout to paint this thing anyways so i might as well take it a step further.
In a perfect world i would cut out little metal circles, use a magnet to hold them in place and then tack weld them in etc..But i don't have a welder here. I used this stuff on my Lexus when i had to fill spoiler holes in my trunk. You basically put it on the inside of your panel and it gives your bondo something to adhere to. Otherwise your bondo is just going to droop into your hole.

d321.jpg

So i cut pieces that covered the holes. (it has adhesive on the metal grate)
I scuffed the mtal and degreased it then stuck it on both sides. You can see it if you look close up under that hose

d322.jpg

view from the top

d323.jpg

both holes slightly coned and protruded like a boob so i used a big hammer and very lightly bounced the hammer aroundthe edge of the holes to flatten them. this was before i did that

d324.jpg

sanded around the holes and degreased, then mixed up some good ol body filler and covered them up

d325.jpg

But then it was Thankgiving and i had to roll this dismantled Denali all the way out to Phoenix for a get together.
Here's a pic in Gila Bend (half way to Phoenix)
