I am in the process of rebuilding my NV246 transfer case and just separated the Planetary gear and found out that 1 of the 6 gears has a bad bearing causeing it to move around.. I don't have much of a choice but to put it back togther for now, no money for a $300 planetary gear.

What can I expect to happen??

If its going to exploded then I have to check other options which do not included buying a planetary gear. Could I get 10K or 20K miles out of it?

I would think that the planetary gear would only be used for 4low, since it is a reduction gear. It might not be used at all in 2high.
Again not sure but while its apart, check the junkyard or trans shop for used part.

In total all new parts includong torque convwrter and instal from the best in my town was 1300 so id just get all new rather then get a used part and risk something else blowing

He is working on his transfer case G,not the tranny.I think GP is correct but like he said you already have it apart,go to the boneyard or local trans shop and try to score a used one for now.

Yeah the trans is a different story.
1, 2, and 4 have planetary gears, 3rd is direct drive.
Thats why you should tow heavy stuff in 3rd since the OD planetary takes a serious load, not to mention lock up converter likes to unlock causing high fluid temps.

Its not worth putting the transfer case back together broken. Too much time and labor to do it all again. Thats what credit cards are for, get the planetary.
