2008 tahoe. After running the air conditioning for 30-45 minutes the evaporator(silver canister under the hood located on the fire wall)-also the coil( radiator looking thing in the duct work under the dash )will freeze to solid block of ice and no air will come out of the vents in the dash- the rear air (second and third row)will continue to work.
If you shut off the air or turn on the heat to thaw it, it will work for another 30-45 minutes.

I have used compressed air to blow out the drain tube, didn't help. Have tried to recirculate and not recirculate but neither one cures the issue.
I have checked all the blend doors and they are operating. I have checked the blower motor, it is working correctly.

Please help.

The cycling switch on the accumulator is the most likely cause. They are cheap and require no special tools to replace.

Get an AC delco switch which should be available at a parts store. The store brand are all bad out of the box due to poor construction.

Is that the silver canister on the fire wall?

Yes. The cycling switch screws into the side. There is a schrader valve so the switch can be replaced without discharging the system.

Canister is the accumulator / receiver dryer.

Some cars /systems have a expansion valve in lieu of the cycling switch.
