That's a great find. Thanks for sharing. His argument that electrical problems are the root cause of AFM failure in many cases rings true.

Good info around 9am addressing the electrical bits but they didn't get to specific about where exactly to look for these electrical problems but I also didn't watch the whole video

they didn't.. I took it as the vlom solenoid going bad or wiring related to them. but yeah, could be more to it.

That's exactly right, 9 times out of 10 it is a solenoid getting out of time which causes a lifter to collapse and get damaged.

Knowing what we know now, if we just replaced the solenoids every so often, failures would be greatly reduced or eliminated over the life of the engine.

new vlom plate isn't that expensive compared to pulling heads and stuff.

it just happens to slowly but I agree a good case study would be a afm truck, change the oil every 5k and the vlom plate every 80k and see what happens. but it plays out to slowly over real time.

I toyed with the idea of just changing my volm and hoping for the best. since most sites said the afm couldn't be turned off on a hybrid. turned out it could be with hp easily and I already had one laying around with credits on it. so I killed it. bit it's a shame thou since these trucks actually make good use of it
