'06 Z71 Tahoe RWD - At moderate to hard braking there is a popping sound, but only when the underside is wet? It sounds like its coming from the front passenger side, but I couldn't swear that it is in the front. It's a metal on metal pop with a slight ting sound to it like what a bad u-joint can sound like if that makes any sense...

The upper and lower control arm bushings and ball joints have been replaced aswell as the inner and outer tie-rod ends.

Any shared knowledge or thoughts would be appreciated!

Another, totally separate, "wet" issue - when driven in rain or car wash the A/C compressor quits until something gets dry enough to work.....?

My 'hoe likes it dry, which ain't good!

Thanks!

Could it be the ABS pump working when your tires almost locks? Worn guide pins on the calipters also make strange sounds.

x2, what kind of shape are your tires in. when i had crap tires, theyd have a hard time turning my heavy truck on wet roads and if they slid at all, abs/traction/stability whatever would kick on and make a noise. but it sounds more like a slippin clutch

Tires are in great shape...

I'll check the guide pins...I thought to check the brakes since the rotors and pads have lots of good miles left on them...

I'll reply with what I find...thanks!

Becasue you stated when you brake hard im thinking more of a suspension part. If the brakes were making it i would think they would make it at moderate, hard or light braking and no matter wet or dry. Is the noise there if you launch hard? Take off hard and see if you hear it. It can be a shock compressing or something else in the suspension. Was the noise there prior to all the suspension work?

Nate, I have an '06 Z71 and I too have that sound. Only when the chasis is fully wet. It does sound like a metal on metal rub. I don't need to heavy break to hear it and it even will make the sound if I go over a bump. To be honest it has done this since brand new. I had the dealer check it out and they greased something on the chasis (don't ask what) and it was gone for a while. My truck is very well maintained, so it is nothing I did to it.

If you figure it out please let me know.
