Possible to force sounds from phone to NOT come out of the car speakers when CarPlay is enabled?

Yeah if you switch to silent/vibe shouldnt sound off. Dont have any issue on mine.

Tried that, but no luck. Still plays sound out of the vehicle speakers.

Disconnect your phone from car while scrolling instagram or other stuff while sitting in traffic? Can notification sounds be put on vibrate mode in your phone? As well as media volume?

Is there an easy way to do that? Or just have to go into Settings > Carplay every time?

Uh, with all due respect, you aren’t legally allowed to “scroll through instagram” holding your phone in your hand in most states…

48 of 50 prohibit texting while driving.
24 of 50 require hands free use.
Montana and MO allow it.

But, switching the silent switch kills the sounds for sure. I run my phone that way 98% of the time…never get notification sounds from my iPhone in the vehicle.

I knew someone would say it. I get it. I'm not driving and doing this. Every day I pick two kids up from school and sit in a school line for 30-40 minutes for each.

if you have an i phone and you hit the switch above the volume on the side of the phone that will stop audible alerts. i take it a step further because my wife is so nosy. i go into notifications and shut off banner alerts, and any other kind of alert from displaying on the phone itself. that translates to when its in car play, i hear a break in the sound from the music, but no tone. this still bothers me that it does that, the last solution was to silence the user info (<..>) hope this helps!!

Maybe I'm on a different software version or something or just confused. But switching the phone to vibrate using the hardware switch above the volume buttons on iPhone does nothing for me. The sound still plays out of the vehicle speakers. Unless the sound from a video or something is just different from an actual alert for a text/email. I've not tried it with those.

go into each app that is making a unwanted sound and set it to notification bar only, IG will still play a sound while the app is open until you mute it, so will facebook.
All that stuff is annoying anyway

Interesting. Never thought about that. When you say notification bar only, do you mean notification center or banner? I don't actually see a "bar only" option.

well on a android it's a bar across the top of the screen it just places a icon there for active notifications, I do not use apple for cellular so I guess wherever it notify's you without making any sounds

Gotcha. I did try it today but didn't make a difference. I disabled notifications for a Reddit app completely and viewed a video on the phone and the sound still came through the car audio.

I think anything that plays a sound online when you open it is going to play a sound unless you mute it
on my android most things are muted by default and only play a sound when I hit the speaker button, except Instagram which is the opposite it will play a sound and then has to be muted each time it is closed and reopened.
