I have a 2007 Z71 Tahoe, and the passenger side mirror will not fold out. The mirror itself will adjust just fine, but I can't make the mirror fold out. When I click the button to make the mirrors fold out, I can hear the motor running, but the mirror doesn't move.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Thanks.

i had the same issue. the motor "sounds like it's running," but it's actually binding up on the inside. mine had one of the gears split on the shaft and it was just spinning. i tore the mirror motor apart, but it was a waste of time, being that the motor parts aren't really serviceable. my wife found a replacement mirror taken off of a wrecked truck but it was the wrong configuration and not chrome, so i just removed the motor and junked the rest. problem solved.

Well that's not too reassuring. I was able to manually pop the mirror back out to its normal position, so I guess I'll just leave it there and never fold it in again. Pretty annoying that they fell apart like that.

my wife is one of those "if it's here, i want it to work now" kind of people, so the motor replacement was fairly easy and straightforward. i was just going to deal with it until i got some of the "other things" that i wanted to do completed. guess who won that debate...

now that i've seen firsthand how close she gets to ATMs, etc., i'm glad i did it before i had to replace the whole mirror.

How did you go about fixing the motor? Was it pretty easy to access the motor?

pay attention to what plugs go where and how the wiring is routed!

remove the mirror by pushing one corner in and pulling out on the other to pop it loose and unplug the heated mirror leads if applicable.

remove the power mirror motor by removing the 4 torx screws and unplug the motor. separate the front and rear halves of the mirror body (there are a few hidden tabs/clips).

now you'll see the mirror motor (silver) attached to the hinge and inner framework. if i remember correctly, there are 2 or 3 pins pressed into the motor to secure it to the inner mirror frame; drive them out with a punch to remove the frame.

the motor is held in place by 4 more torx screws. once you're there, the rest should be pretty self-explanatory.

Thanks for the information. I may try to dig in there and see if I can tell what the issue is. I'm always hesitant to break stuff apart and cause an even bigger issue...

Id just buy a new mirror assembly, plug it in, and be done with it.

Yeah, that may be easier. Looks pretty pricey though. And it may be difficult to find a matching mirror (I have the Z71 package).
