Ok here is the run down. The wife came home last week and said the lift gate stopped working. First off, the button above the rear view mirror is NOT pressed in the off position. So when it first stopped working, it would release the lock and start making the noise for raising the lift gate, but no movement.

This went on for about 3 to 4 days. Finally, it stopped making the noise all together, but still unlocks the latch. So I detached the bar that goes from the motor to the lift gate so we could use it manually without screwing anything up. After the bar was removed and no pressure was on the motor, I observed the gears on the motor when I pressed either the key fob button or the buttons on the vehicle and the gears move about a 1/4 to 1/2 inch then stops.

So, the motor is getting power so it wouldnt be a fuse or electrical issue. Im guessing my motor is bad and it froze up?

Any thoughts on the issue would be appreciated and if its a bad motor anybody know where a good place to buy another one is?

I would say it's the motor because of this...

the gears move about a 1/4 to 1/2 inch then stops.

Has anyone changed the motor before. Its on an 08 denali. Is it a direct bolt on replacement ? Are there settings for tension? Do i have to worry about which cycle, up or down, the motor is in or once i attach the rod from the motor to the gate it will be all good.

Thanks

Also, If i decide to try and pull one from a wrecked car at a junk yard, Im guessing the motor is the same in ALL the full size GM suv's (chevy, gmc, cady) ?

Thanks

Looks like it is GM Part Number: 25889602

$86.07 on GMPartsDirect.com

Probably not worth the effort at the junk yard for that price...

Well I called around today for prices on parts. I am told there are 2 modules back near the motor that also tell the motor what to do and they could either need reprogrammed or 1 could be bad. Multiple garages said they haven't heard of the motors going in them yet so it might not be that.

With all the components back their, I think i'm gonna break down in a month or so and have a GM garage diagnose it so I know what I need instead of buying the wrong parts and going on a wild goose chase for the problem. It may be as simple as them reprogramming the modules.

Thanks for all the input thus far guys.
