Power steering pulley question...

If you lift the front end it will make it easier to bleed, Brutus is right, make sure no leaky hoses are present, patience bud, you got this

Oh yeah, avoid going from lock to lock on steering, smooth turning of the wheel is the trick...

Will check that clamp up for sure, could it be sucking air there? ... I re-bled it again this morning and got a huge burp of air come through the fluid... Should I give it a few days of driving and see if it improves? I have put a quart of fluid in so far, minus what I lost when it burped this morning...Do these ever take time to completely bleed? I just want to be sure I'm not being hasty about it, its the first one I have done ever and I just don't know what to expect. I guess I thought it would just be done and better...thanks for the help!

So dont turn the wheel all the way to left or right , just enough to turn wheels? I do have the front of the truck off the ground...and had it clean until I burped fluid everywhere

Lift the front end off the ground, start the engine and let it idle, move the steering wheel slowly from full left to full right and back a few times. if you have hydrboost also depress the break pedal while doing this.

Thanks...no hydroboost on this one...just getting sick of this dragging on. I want to be done with it...Do you know how long this supposed to take? How many time I should have to turn the wheel back and forth? I did it like 20 times last night and Ive done it 5 times already today...its easier to steer for sure but still whines like crazy...

I usually do it about 10 times lock to lock...did you have the engine on when you did it before?

I did have engine on in between to check fluid but not when I was turning the wheel to bleed...Im pretty sure the air is out because I am getting a smooth consistent wheel turn, no jitters or anything like that but its whining pretty loud. Is it possible I got a bad pump? I talked with the salesman where I got it he said it needed to break in and could take 500 miles before it stops whining? He said it actually states that as a footnote on the box... Does that sound right? I mean when you buy a new car it doesn't whine...

you could take it off and get another one and start over, or drive it as is for a while and see if it improves...

They may have a break it. (should actually)
However it should not whine.

The easiest way I have found to bleed is the following.
Lift the front end. (as you know and have done easier to turn.)
Engine off, turn the wheel left to right, full lock to full lock.
The gear box will push fluid/air. Refill, repeat, refill, repeat, etc...
Without hydroboost you should get almost all (maybe all) of the air out this way.
Hydroboost more lines, components etc... works well, but real hard to get it all this way.

When you quit getting air, start it. Cap off the ps. Do you see air bubbles? If so shut it off and let the bubbles dissipate. Start again. Bubbles, shut it off. Clean start and turn the wheels. Squeal, shut it off. Let the bubbles dissipate. Etc...

This greatly reduces the harsh bleeding procedure most people do having the pump whine due to lack of fluid.

It does take time, 20 turns may well not be enough.

Thanks for the advise...I just feel like it should be bled by now...going to try it again in the morning and see if I can get more air to come out. So far the fluid level is staying consistent and I'm not seeing air bubbles anymore...after I will drive it but if its whining like it is now I will have to pull it again...Is it common to get junk pumps? It seems to be a common complaint...the manufacturer seems to think its normal. Could it be the fluid itself?

Thanks again for the advise. Going to pull it and try another one. Its getting worse and robbing power from truck now...Sounds like it should when you need to replace it...must be a dud.
