When looking for a new Tahoe the dealer located a couple vehicles that matched what I was looking for, basically a High Country with all the options as I tow frequently and wanted all the luxury features. My color preference was iridescent pearl with jet black/mocha interior. Unfortunately the only cars that the dealer (my local dealer has been very good for me with last 3 vehicles) could locate didn’t have the powered running boards. They told me they could have the better aftermarket (Amp Research) ones installed as part of the deal. After researching the AMP products I decided to go with that. Took delivery and the AMP steps are fantastic! Larger platform for the foot, no chrome trim which I think is better looking and less maintenance, and these deploy fast!
Life is good
Anyway after a while, maybe couple weeks I noticed that the running boards didn’t deploy when opening rear doors both sides. Front doors open and they deploy like normal. I am no mechanic but figured that nothing is wrong with the motors as they work on opening the front doors so maybe something loose/not connected? The only thing I can see and access is the OBD plug and it is seated and plugged in. I un plug it and then plug it back in. Everything works perfectly! Rear door open and the running board deployed and stows a few seconds after I close it.
A week goes by with no issues and then this morning I open rear door and no running board deployment. I go back to OBD plug, un plug it then plug it back in and everything works again. This has happened twice so far.
Any idea of what is causing this? Nothing else has changed and no different driving than my usual routine. The running boards deploy perfectly after cycling the OBD plug for a few days then the boards only deploy opening front doors and not the rear doors. Doesn’t seem logical but pulling then plugging the OBD fixes it but only temporary. I am not hitting or touching it as far as I am aware and every time I unplug it it’s pretty secure before it comes off.
What could be causing this?
