Hi all - I'm wondering if any of you have any thoughts on this...

I bought this 2015 Tahoe used with pretty low miles (43k) in 2021. I've taken the vehcile to a Chevy dealer for service as long as I've had it. I had a full transmission fluid exchange at 53k and I also had a safety check at the dealer at 74k.

I have not done any towing with the unit - although I don't know how it was treated by the original owner.

It now has 78k and the transmission started to act up between 2nd and 3rd gears. I took it to the dealer for its annual state inspection and to have them diagnose the transmission issue.

They said the tranny oil was dark and smelled burnt. They dropped the pan today and said there were all kinds of metal bits - too many to economically rebuild the trans. (I asked them if it looked like the bottom of TMI-2 after its meltdown - you gotta have a laugh when you can!)

So now it's gonna cost over $7,000 bucks for a new transmission.

I have no idea what went wrong here. I asked the service tech to see if he had any thoughts and it was "well, sometimes things just happen."

I'd love to hear what you may have to say about this! Many thanks!!!

Unfortunately that generation had several problems with the torque converter being the most common especially in the 75k-100k miles. Others will chime in but I’m questioning if they truly did a fluid exchange the new fluid would be bad after 25k miles. They also had an issue with the fluid temperature sensor so maybe it got hot and that caused the problem. Sorry you’re dealing with this. Is the dealer doing the repair or an individual shop?
