I'm having problems with my Tahoe and am unsure where to begin. When I start my truck sometimes it will shift normally and run normally for 1-5 mins.. before pressing on my gas does nothing but rev the engine.
I tested it by going to drive, driving forward 20-30 feet. Shifting to reverse, 20 to 30 feet. I did this about 3-4 times on the 3rd or 4th it seemed to hesitate accelerating before hitting gas did nothing. Shifter has no resistance.

If I shut the truck off and turn it on once or twice. Shifter works normal and truck will drive for another 30 secs or so then back to no movement.

Transmission dipstick when truck has set forever is REALLY overfilled.

Computer codes are for P0753

If you're lucky your shift cable is loose. It's on the driver side of transmission. Kind of hard to see up there but can get a hand and fiddle with it. Has a rubber sleeve on it above the fluid pan.

Otherwise, you can drop the pan (have to drop the exhaust) easier than it sounds... Your manual gear selector shaft / wheel could be loose. When you do this you can inspect the pan magnet and fluid for debris. If you have debris and or is dark, then your issue is with clutches / will need rebuilt.

If fluid is clean, and you still cannot spot issue with shift linkage then you likely have an issue with one of the solenoids, the harness, or valve body. I'd put my money on electrical issue. It looks a bit overwhelming under there but honestly, it's very simple, and TONS of videos on how to assemble / take apart. I extensively used Project 4L60E videos... Part 2 Lesson 8+? towards end is the valve body. They show how to completely refurbish one.

If is overwhelming I can refer you to the builder who coached me / helped me to build mine. He's AWESOME! Whatever you do DO NOT buy a craigslist special to swap in.

Surprisingly the 4L60E is MUCH tougher than people give it credit so likely is something simple and if it isn't they're a dime a dozen. Just finished building my first one :)

Anyways, I can talk forever. Give us some more specifics and can help troubleshoot here.

makes me wonder if the filter is plugged and when trying to accelerate it cannot get enough fluid through the filter. when was the last time it was changed?

FIrst thing I would do is get the tranny fluid back to normal range on the dipstick. Then while you are under the Tahoe check the shift cable to see if its mounting bracket is bolted tight to the tranny and make sure cable is not broken at its connector. You could have a bad 1+2 Shift solenoid but more likely 1st gear is burnt up and forward clutches nuked.

Some good suggestions above.
I'd second making sure fluid level is topped off. Checking cable attachment. I'd wonder if the filter is plugged, cracked, or lost it's seal to the pump. When you say it will drive normally for a while and quit. Then by turning it off it go again makes me wonder. If all those check out, I'd start looking at solenoids. How many miles?

I think he's not checked back at the thread. Would help to know if basics are good. Fluid is clean and at right level, cable is secure, etc.

I think this takes care of the fluid level. "Transmission dipstick when truck has set forever is REALLY overfilled."
Did some clown overfill it or is the coolant leaking into the tranny fluid because the radiator is done.
