programing remote key fob

Not to thread jack, but what does "resetting" the remote do? I took mine apart and it says "to reset press lock and unlock 7 seconds near car". Mine has been seen a noticeable decrease in the time it takes to unlock the doors.

Pretty sure it just makes it forget a previous vehicle if you are using it on a different car. Example my yukon's old fob is now being used on the z28.. When ever I hit the unlock/lock button both unlock/lock. I haven't reset it yet.
