Hey coming in late on this one. Snow 'chains' are a problem for AWD. Something about the constant switching of torque by the computer is interrupted by the roughness of chains. Remedy: snow cables. Cables are not as harsh. Chances are however, those will be for an emergency. Having AWD should be just fine in the snow.

I don't think you can put chains on a regular 4wd either. I'm sure you can but I believe the manual says not to.

You use cables on 4WD rigs because chains will tear up the transfer case.

I am really thinking about getting a 3/4 ton Suburban/Yukon XL over the Tahoe/Yukon. I was looking into the AWD of the Denali and I don't think I am going to go with it. I do to much mudding, sand running, and trail wheeling for the AWD. Unless someone has more wheeling experiance with the AWD Denali please let me know.

The 6.2L was available in the tahoe for 08. I think there was very few 4x4s though.

The manual on my 05 says to not use chains or cables at all. Mines 2wd. It says there isnt enough clearance with the 17 inch wheels. I havent looked in the manual of my 08 to see what it says it hasnt been anywhere where it might need them.

I have a 2008 Denali. I just returned from a 700 mile trip where I towed my 5000 lb boat on vacation. I held 70 mph through the mountains of western Maryland on I70 with no problems. The Denali tows like a dream! I am thrilled with this vehicle. I am also a Corvette owner and there are plenty of days I choose the Denali over the Vette just for the sheer comfort and practicality.
