Hey all,

So, I kept the factory nav headunit in my '09, and replaced the speakers with aftermarket. Also added an aftermarket amp (but kept the factory amp to power the dash center speaker, I think (I didn't do the install, but I believe that's what was done)). Also added an aftermarket crossover/EQ (hopefully that's the correct description) that allows tuning of the system.

When all was said and done, the factory chimes -- when a button is pressed on the nav, or when the seat belt warning chimes, when the turn signal blinks, etc. -- were EAR-SHATTERING. Just incredibly loud.

It seems that, currently, the only way to reduce the volume of the chimes is to turn down the amp input on the eq. This reduces the overall volume of the radio while reducing the volume of the chimes -- but then the volume of the radio can be increased with the volume knob while the chimes remain reduced.

My question(s): Is this the ONLY way to reduce the volume of the factory chimes? Or, is these another way? Have I greatly reduced the effectiveness (in overall volume and sound quality) by tuning back the amp output?

I am assuming that the factory chimes always came from the driver's pillar speaker, and so I'd want to keep it that way. But I can't help but wonder if there's something else to do/add/reconfigure to allow more amp power while keeping the chime volumes low.

Please help! Thanks!

Your install sounds just about right but I do suggest using the DIC controls to try and reduce that chime volume, check the owners manual if you don't know how to do that.

Nna -- Thanks for the reply!

I know what you're talking about. I did go through the DIC, and it appeared that there was only one chime volume you could control (and now I forget which one), and that the options were only "normal" (which is currently too loud), and "loud" (which can wake the dead).

Now, maybe I'm missing something, but I haven't encountered a way to drop the seat belt warning chime and Nav touch-screen tones down without turning down the setting on the EQ.

Anymore thoughts? If anyone else with aftermarket speakers and an amp ISN'T experiencing this, then that just means there IS a way to configure things so that it's not a problem -- I just need to know what that way is! LOL

Thanks!

As for the seat belt chime, I don't think you can really do anything about that.
But the Nav chime shoudl be adjustable as my rents H2 navigational system has adjustable tone volumes, can even turn it off completely.
I want to know what adapter you used to get these speakers in, if any at all, becaus ethe use of an adapter like the PAC OS-3 or OS-4 comes with a seperate chim box which keeps the chime from being annoying like yours.
Ask the guys who wired it for you, if they didn't use one then I suggest you buy it from Ebay or SonicElectronix and make them install for free as it is crazy they would not do it inittially.

Nna -- My truck is out getting the rear lowered. Any chance you can check to see how you go about lowering the tones in the H2 and let me know? My owner's manual is in my truck, so I can't even check that at the moment. Thanks!

I have the same problem with my system even when i reverse the chime is crazy loud but its not very annoying because i dont do it all day everyday i think the chime in the DIC he's talking bout Nnaboy is the one for the keyless entry i believe the seat belt chime can't be changed its suppose to be annoying so you keep the belt on.... the Nav has it's own seperate volume but it would also lower the voice prompts as well. so its a up to you to decide on that comfort level. anyhow for the sound quality you got i think a lil loud chime is worth it mines will be supper loud once my new system goes in next week. i'll have about 4500 RMS wattage goin on. LOL I LOVE IT

Your installer needs to take the chimes and blinkers off the big amp, there is an interface device to be used to control the door chimes, and other secondary audio functions. You can even get a small 25 watt amp and a single speaker to hook to the chimes and secondary audio. the installer then can adjust the volume to your liking......just another thing the major automakers are trying to keep you from adding custom Audio!! any questions feel free to call Jason @ Az Kar Tunez 623-385-6366 picture.jpg

Can you post up any info on this interface for the chime system? Is it something you can purchase online? Is there a set of wires that can be cut and spliced to a new speaker/mini-amp setup?

Dude two good interfaces are the PAC OS-3 adapter or the PAC OS-4 adapter. Whichever one you want is fine jsut make sure you pay attention to whether you have Bose or not. They come ready to connect to your HU and are all over online, including Ebay.
