Buddy needs some advice/help on this one. Has a 1989 burban, just put in a aftermarket radio since the stock one was no good. Got it wired up and works fine

Turns radio on without lights, everything's fine
Turns lights on without radio, everything's fine

(lights meaning parking lamps/headlights)
When he turns both of them on, that's when the fuse pops. its blowing a 20amp fuse.

Thanks

EDIT: happy 7000ths post to me

try a 25 amp fuse its possible that the lights and the radio are on the same bus since the new radio is more than likley more powerful it might be putting to much load on the circuit thus blowing the fuse but moniter it closley because bigger fuses on wires rated for lower ones can cause fires

if you are sure they dont run the same bus check the wires individually to make sure they are not touching when one or the other is on it might not do anything like u stated above but when both are powered it might send a surge to that fuse and blow it

Yea i know its only 5 more amps, but anything more then what they call for can really throw it off. Maybe well try it for a little bit and see what happens. He didnt hook up the ill or dim wire on the radio itself..

honstly i think its the radio itself it didnt do it with the old one right? probally cause its trying to draw or push too much current and would require a resistor but i dont think 5 amps is really gunna hurt its how i fixed my dimmer in the kon an that was 8 months ago still no issues although you are asking a redneck how to make a rocket fly
