Rack & Pinion gear assembly replaced...

Got my power steering R&P gear assembly replaced today after 2 weeks of squeaking when turning the steering wheel. This is a '09 tahoe with 35k miles...anybody else got this replaced recently?

My local dealership will not replace anything under warranty.

All they want to do is repair or fix.

Then don't go to them, sue them, or lemon law your truck while it's still under warranty. Remember, Magnuson-Moss says they have to prove the failure is out of warranty. They likely can't since they have technicians and not engineers.

RoHoe, I work in auto parts. I get more calls for rack and pinion assemblies for Dodge minivans and Nissan cars than anything else. Occasionally I'll get a call for chevy trucks, but they are always much older. The biggest thing I see on chevy trucks are pitman arms and idler arms, but that's only one independent shop. This makes me wonder about that shop. Every now and then I'll get calls for ball joints, but again, that's on older trucks.
