Ok, I fixed the heater hose quick connect on my tbi. I thought this would solve my overheating problem. I noticed at a stop my engine was getting warmer and then when I would drive it would cool down.. Never got really hot like when I had the bad quick connect but I've been watching engine since I just did recent work on cooling system...when I changed the connector and flushed the system and when I replaced coolant I left cap of radiator and purged air squeezing hoses and working it out till system was at operating temp... Could I have another issue like thermostat or water pump? Should I just replace both...I did radiator about a year ago...not sure what else it could be. Fan runs fine and turns off and on as needed.

it sounds like the thermostat is not opening letting the coolant get into the radiator to cool down. yet the fan is running the whole time and that will help keep the radiator assembly cooled down as well.

Ok, after investigating further I saw a small amount of coolant around thermostat housing. So changed thermostat, with 195deg stat. Took truck for drive, engine runs cooler now with no fluctuations. Radiator cap is still cold when done driving, is that normal? Hose from stat to radiator is hot, radiator is hot, but cap is cool...I just don't recall cap being that cool, is it me or is cap supposed to get hot?

they do get hot. maybe the cap is well insulated and maybe the pressure in the system is not high enough that it bypassing to the reservoir which will make it hot then.
