Our service dept. told me it was optional back when the recall was issued. Hmm, maybe they changed it to required.
Standard procedure with the svc. dept. at a dealer however is to check for recalls and perform any that are needed so if you don't talk to them about it they'll do it. I'd ask if they can leave it intact when dropping off the rig and watch them note it on the job sheet. They may refuse or ask you to sign something because if your vehicle happened to burn down after it was in for service you could theoretically turn around and sue the dealer for not performing the recall when it was in for service if there's no record of you asking them to leave it functional.
