Okay, so I'm going to either jump on a silverado cubby, or not.

Only reason I wouldnt is if removing the rear audio controls messes with the way the Bose system works.

I thought I read somewhere that if you remove the rear audio controls that it will disable the rear speakers.
If anyone could lend me some advice here it would be greatly appreciated

Yes it will disable them. I'm currently struggling to go the other way as I've changed over my head unit on my Denali and only the front speakers and sub work. It's been a real struggle thus far trying to piece together all the info I've read and the 1000 or so pictures and wiring diagrams. If anything, just stuff the controls inside the console somewhere.

Seems like too much of a hassle, at least until I amp my JBL 3ways, then the RAC wouldn't matter anymore.
By then, I'll probably be looking into doing a power inverter or screen back there. I'm more into doing a power inverter rather than a screen considering I camp and fish I think it would come in more handy than have an extra screen in my tahoe.

Funny you mentioned the inverter. I JUST went on a little road trip myself and wanted to bring my inverter along. During this trip I was temporarily bored and had myself decided to yank out that RAC and was investigating a hardwired bypass for my issue. My inverter is one of those little units to provide me with enough to charge my laptop, tablet or whatever, not much else. What i just thought about as you just mentioned it, is that i think that would be an awesome spot to 'permanently' stick that thing in. The On/Off switch is located on the same face as the 2 outlets so good idea with minor mods I'm sure.
I'm also thinking that if more than the 300 watts or whatever isn't enough, there's plenty of room where that dust collecting CD changer is currently residing for a much larger unit. Create a custom plate with a couple outlets and a switch to replaced that RAC with and solve two space wastes. Hmm, you have got my CID gears going again...

Yeah, I think it would be an awesome place for an inverter. I've also been thinking about trying to create hidden storage all over this thing, not for anything illegal, but because I like it. I saw that mag light mod, I'm going to do it soon. I'm really trying to go as "tactical/offroad/camper" as I can with this rig

Yes, nothing illegal and the tactical thing sounds like a good idea too. I'm totally into mods and little extras to separate my ride. I'm wrapping the headlights with white LEDs about half way around and tying them into the signals. On the back I'm going to put some vertical red LEDs on the plastic corners and add them to tail/stop lights as well. I've got several different ideas I'll implement when afforded the time but those will be the first. I'll post pics as i make any real progress, just dealing with an oil and coolant leak today and a couple other mechanical issues.
