That's out of spec. It should not be more than .012 inches per side. Radial should be between .002-.003 inches. Time for an overhaul.
Where do I even start? Wheel bearing?

Is this a normal situation on these police Tahoes, and/or tahoes/Yukon/escalades in general?

My vehicle has 77k miles

Thanks for the response(s)!!!

When you move that side in and out what does the other side do?

The axle shaft ends are kept from moving inward by the carrier center pin. If the pin is worn or the ends of the axle shafts are worn that side axle will have excessive play.

If one side moves outward when the other side is pushed inward then it could be the carrier bearings or shims.
