Rear backing plates

Hey everyone...got my truck back from the dealership today and they told me that my rear backing plates are almost completely gone. I had them replaced on my Avalanche, and they were a one-piece, but because 2000-02 is different from 2003-06, i dont know if my Yukon uses a one or two-piece; theres not enough left of it to tell. Let me know if anyone has any information, please and thank you!!

UPDATE--I read on the ChevyAvalancheClub.com forum that BOTH one and two piece setups are compatible with all models of that year range (2000-06), so I picked up the two piece from Advance and dropped it off at the mechanic. I received word later that it was incompatible, so they were going to go out and pick up a one piece, clean up the two piece that I brought them, and i could then return it. So i get $10 back, but pay an extra $60 for an hour of labor. I wish that they could make it a little more clear as to what does and does not work. Thanks.

There are two backing plates that are compatible the one piece and the two piece,rock auto has both of them

Get the 2 piece.. I got one off amazon and its worked great. there are a bunch of videos on how to install these on youtube

Not exactly. Turns out, in order to get the original one-piece plates off that rusted away, you still need to take apart the axle. Figured while they had it off just install the replacement one-piece and save me $10 in parts. Make no difference on the labor.

Your mechanic actually used different parts to save you $10 but you had to clean up the ones you bought and return them? Sounds fishy to me. I think they must have made money off the ones they provided and used the $10 as bait to make it look like they cared about your pocket.

I did mine yesterday on my '02 Denali and you don't need to take the axle apart to remove the old 1-piece ones. A pair of tin snips works fine. Your mechanic did it the hard way. I did both of mine while doing brakes and it took about an extra half hour total.
