There is a slow drip/leak where the drive rear shaft goes into the transfer case. How hard of a job is it to replace that seal?

2004 4x4 Tahoe with the 5.3L engine.

I checked the fluid last night and good news is there is still plenty of fluid so this is a slow drip/leak. The way the seal looked was not correct to me. Newby with the 4x4 so not sure of all the correct terms. Is the seal supposed to come out over the drive shaft or is it supposed to go into the transfer case? Not sure if that makes sense. I will take a picture today and post.

Also, the leak started about one month after installing a 2/3 lowering kit.

As long as you have the right tools and some time, it won't be very difficult. If you are not real comfortable working on the truck, take your time, take pictures or label all the parts.

I would call an auto parts store to make sure they have/can get the parts or have them in stock. I would not order the parts until you pull everything apart and find out what is really going on.

Here is picture of the seal. You can see in the picture the rubber part of the seal comes out of the transfer case. Is this supposed to do this or should that be inside the transfer case?

That looks right. Probably just have a bad seal. Not to bad to change. Don't think your suspension mods would have anything to do with it.

that didnt look too bad in the pic. mine started leaking pretty bad after a road trip to fla but our Yukon has over 180k on it so its expected at some point. The seal from rock auto was only $30 and the dealer said it was about an hour fix so it cant be too bad.
