I noticed this yesterday when pulling out of my parking spot at my apartment and again when pulling into a Wendy's drive through. As I made a tight turn it was if the diff wasn't unlocking or it was trying to turn one of the tires the opposite direction of the other. It was a tad icy in my apartment complex so I didn't think much of it until I was able to recreate the problem in a parking lot. Now it hasn't seemed to be acting up any more that I can tell. It does seem to be acting like a standard open diff. I had to give it some gas today pulling into traffic and it just spun the inside wheel. What's the best course of action here? rebuild, replace, whole new axle? Wait till it's just shot and then worry about it?
05 Z71 with code G80 on the glove box sticker.
If I was home in KC MO I'd have more options but I'm in Texas for work away from all my hook ups for shops, lifts, tools, friends, salvage yards etc.

The clutch discs or pins might be shot. The Eaton G80 can be very fragile, especially if you tow a lot. A good friend of mine has blown 3-5 G80s in his 2WD 1500.

Try to do the simple solution first, add new diff fluid and see if it makes it smoother. Maybe run a little thicker diff fluid than what GM recommends.

I think I decided I'm just going to drive it for a while until I have the chance to drop it off at a shop and just have a good diff installed.
Anyone know the options for good locking or LSD diffs for that rear end?
