Rear fold-down cup holders

did a google search on this and figured I'd get a huge list of similar issues since my mother's 2007 and my wife's 2010 are both doing the same thing... but nothing.

both the 2007 and 2010 are the LT models with the fold down cup holders in the rear of the center console. both closed and opened as expected when new (we won't get into the actual usability of the cup holders here). They have since stopped closing completely and instead sit slightly away from the console, so much that you can actually see a gap in-between the console and the cup holder when left to rest after closing.

Anybody else having this issue? Did some tab break at some point and I'm just not aware of it.

Have not experienced that...yet... I feel like when I read about a problem it manifests shortly after...

I'd like to slap the engineer who approved designing 3" deep rear cupholders tho...

Had this issue with my 2012 Yukon, dealer replaced the hinge and that fixed it.

rear hinge lists for ~ $50. seams kinda pricey for something that will just inevitable break down again.

I'm thinking about using magnets, haven't really looked at it yet to see what kinda space I have to work with. Will update this thread if I decide to try anything, hopefully we can come up with a nice DIY for those with this problem that are out of warranty... We'll see.

I had an 08 LTZ for about 8 months that I bought used that had this issue. It would rattle too. I just left the cup holders down. I thought maybe the people that had it before us had a kid(s) that maybe stood/stepped on it when it was down.
