Rear Hatch lock

Hi..New Member here. I have a 2006 Tahoe 2WD base model. The rear hatch will not lock. I have secured a replacement assembly and will install it soon. The truck was purchased with no remotes. I bought 2 on E Bay and they will not program using the instructions on U Tube. Can the bad hatch lock be the cause of it not programming? Thanks for any help.

It's doubtful that the lock would cause a programming issue. The lock just sits there until it gets a command to lock or unlock. While you have it opened up, you should check for voltage going to the lock while a helper hits the power lock switch. If you're not getting voltage, a new lock won't help.

I did not receive any remotes with the truck. I checked with an E Bay seller who advised me they would work.
Does he have good reviews? Not all sellers are trustworthy. You have to get a specific FCC number for the fobs to work for your vehicle. I think i read on the forum the passenger side window control--that whole setup--has something to do with syncing the fobs yo the truck--not positive tho. I think @Doubeleive has some knowledge on this subject.

the best way to go about getting the correct fob is to call a gm dealer and give them the last 8 of your vin and ask them for the correct fob part number.
the rear hatch lock "might" cause a fob programming issue I guess it depends on how it has failed. Can't say either way on the gmt800's as this hasn't come up before, but with the newer trucks the rear hatch module can be problematic in general.
I would get the correct part number from the dealer and then reference that to what you purchased off ebay and confirm if they are "supposed" to work or not.
then verify the correct programming method for a 2006. make sure the battery in the fob and battery in the vehicle is good, low voltage on either can be a problem.
on the other hand without any direct reference to what you bought off of ebay they could be junk aftermarket fobs that may not work well.
I wouldn't worry about the remote control door lock switch until you know you have a good working fob and if it can't be programmed even with a tool.

Most websites for aftermarket fobs will list the FCC code for the particular vehicle. Here's one, for example:


If you look at the detailed info for a particular fob it should list the FCC ID. Compare that to the ones you bought. An aftermarket fob may list two FCC IDs; one is for the GM OE fob (for compatibility) and the other is for this particular fob, since any aftermarket fob would need to comply with the FCC's device registration program and would get a new number.

Mine (2004) have FCC ID LHJO11; some vendors might show that "O" as a "0".

Are you using these exact instructions? How far do you get when you're programming them?

1. Close all vehicle doors.

2. Insert the key into the ignition.

3. Hold down the power UNLOCK button on the driver’s door panel-continue to hold
down until instructed to release in step 9.

4. Perform steps 5 through 8 in fairly rapid succession.

5. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position (as far as you can go without starting the
engine).

6. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.

7. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.

8. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.

9. Release the power unlock button on the door panel. The vehicle will lock and unlock
the doors automatically.

10. Hold down the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the transmitter simultaneously until
the door locks and unlocks.
This step may take up to 30 seconds.

11. Repeat step 10 NOW for each additional transmitter (including any existing
transmitters).

12. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position in order to exit the transmitter
programming mode.

I bought a 2005 Yukon Denali a few months ago that also came with no key fobs. I bought a couple on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XWGFFH2. I struggled to program them until I realized that I had changed the unlock setting to "unlock doors in park". Changing that back to the default ("remove key from ignition", perhaps?) allowed me to program both fobs per the above instructions. Go into the vehicle settings in the dash and check the lock/unlock settings.
