rear hatch ulocking and opens by itself

So I bought my wife a 07 Yukon denali a few months ago and now the rear hatch is giving her a lot of issues. The hatch will open by itself unless the switch is turned off on the overhead console. Even with the switch off it will still try to open and often she will have to get out and push the hatch shut on the latch. Has anyone els had this issue? I can not find any info online regarding this issue

Sounds like the button on the outside of the hatch (over the license plate) is bad and just throwing random open signals.
