Just a quick question. My power rear hatch on a 2007 escalade won't open all the way. It starts opening and once it gets about half way up it closes again. I did some online research and it sounds like I have a weak hatch strut. And once the lift motor starts to overload it just closes the hatch. My question is, how do I manually get the hatch open?

Can you not just lift it by hand ?

In my ltz burb, and former yukon...you could do either. Manual or power, just pull the lever.

My ltz burb wouldn't open by hand. I think you have to disable the auto lift to manually open... Mine was warranty so I didn't have to get it open.

My manual says to disable using the button near the front map lights

Got it open. You have to disable the power tailgate with the switch by the sunroof. Friggin pain in the ass it failed while I'm camping.
