Original owner of a 1997 Yukon 4WD 2DR. Been noticing a slow drip at the U-joint to the rear. Looks like a pinion seal? But, as the only work I am experienced at are basic fluid maintenance, drums/shoes, rotors/pads, starters, alts, etc. I researched a bit and read that the breather line can clog and cause the leak? I noticed that the breather on my `97 has a vent cap under the truck. Anyone have any issues with it?

Still sounds like I need a new seal though. Pretty much read everyone recommending the nut behind the U-joint be marked to the bolt to be put back exactly where it was torqued. Seen some having issues loosening the nut as well.

Any other tips for doing this repair?

get the right torque wrenches, inch and foot lbs., and the companion flange holder. mark and count loosening torque exposed threads among other things. can keep the washer but new nut is required as well. tighten until loosening torque is reached. just blow into vent hose to make it is not blocked.
