My 03 Tahoe has Bose sound system from factory and everything is factory still want to add more Bass to it without taking up cargo space. The "grill" for the speaker or whatever its call on the rear side that protects the sub has the shape of the speaker and all but its all seal no little "holes" for sound to come out so will have to cut it out. It doesn't have a box so ill have to get one and a speaker but my concern before I open the hole thing to look at it better what are the chances of the cables from the factory amp for the sub being there? if not is there a way to add the cables to the factory amp? and how? Mine is the very basic Tahoe with just some special request from the factory.

In 03 the sub is in the center console. So I would say there's a 0% chance of wires being back there.

I mean in 03-06, GM put your subwoofer in the center console. You can see i in this eBay listing

So you don't have any wires or anything in he back like the 00-02 GM vehicles did

Wow center console sub, now if I could find a way to know if mine has one or if I could add the speaker to it. I guess if it had a speaker in there the console would rattle at least a bit right? The only special thing about my Tahoe is that it was a factory request to add Bose speakers but the stereo is regular. Is there maybe a port or something somewhere that I could feel for air of the speaker by any chance?
I guess if I have to take that apart to find out ill have to sing up here to know how to properly remove it

No. they did a great job from the factory of no rattle
He doesn't know the dimensions off hand. He keeps saying he will get them, but you have to tear apart the back of the truck. A couple others have done it as well so search for the threads in this section.

Well I found out that mine does have the center console sub. I was playing around with the stereo settings and I set the balance to the rear but could hear Bass somehow coming out of the front speakers sitting normal, I got close to the speakers and they were muted so as I got my head closer to the center console I could hear the bass better. I ended up playing some nice deep tone music and I could hear clearly bass from there and also felt vibrations from it, Still not a big rattle or any thing like that guess they really did a good job one that.
I guess I'm going to either get a factory Tahoe box for the rear and amp it up or might try to make a box like John. Still only time will tell as with all this of Gf, Collage, Work, Family don't have a lot of time to really mess around.

Nice groundscr8pr I was thinking something like that too but still being able to keep the plastic cover over the box and if possible also over the speaker to make it look "stock". Here where I live bad people take a look inside the cars for valuables and if they see that box like yours they know it has a good speaker and amp and guess what happens next... broken window and things go missing -_-

I used a 1/8" drill bit in my drimel and used it to cut all the little breather cent slots. And on back side use a cone stone sand but to get all the shavings off.
I hate to say it but for a box the size I did that contours to the wheel well it has 3d complex curves. I cut and fit each piece. Now a square box you can do and I can measure for a simple square BUT it is low on the cf recomend. I tuned and built to spec mine for my speaker. 10" pioneer flat. Since it's debut a few years back when I did the install JL and a couple others have developed flat slim speakers.
I love the sound. No it does not sound the same as a full range traditional basket and coil speaker. Mainly bc it is not designed the same. The slims have the coil within the basket itself and this you have a more limited travel than a traditional speaker. This changes the sound some. Now Nathan has heard my system it hits hard. But you are not going to move the same volume of air with a flat 10 as you would with 2 traditional 12s that is a fact jack!
So if your expecting a hidden sub to do Hair tricks this will not happen.
Will it rattle the body panels and blow the pants off of any factory sub. He'll yes. Comming from working in a custom audio shop and hearing lots of systems this is an amazing compromise to have good clean bass while not sacrificing all of the cargo room which was the main intention that I had. As most will tell you I tailgate a lot and use every inch of my cargo on a weekly occur acne.
Now the depth that you are working with is shallow. So your going to have to run a shallow mount speaker.
