Why settle for a 5.3L? No one EVER regrets upgrading from a 5.3L to a 6.0L.



But I don't know if ANY of those are near enough to you to be of help, because
we don't know WHERE you're at ... ?

You can buy a remanufactored long block assy from Oreilly, Autozone, etc. Most include a 3 or4 year warrenty. VCT84WD Cost under 3000.00 plus tax.

You don't really want to buy from just anywhere. There's a lot of BAD builders out there. That said, the engines are VERY easy to rebuild on your own. Only hard part is pulling it. If you're a glutton for punishment you could possibly rebuild in the engine bay depending on what's wrong.

I'm 100% with @Marky Dissod don't just put in another 5.3L. The trucks really should have come with 6.0L. I did the upgrade myself and ZERO regrets. It's a MUCH better engine and I couldn't notice any change in fuel mileage... It may have even IMPROVED as the 6.0L works less to do more.

If you want somebody to build for you... Maybe try this Dave's Auto Center. I've been hooked on their YouTube lol But they say all the right things...


That said, again I'd be VERY particular about who builds an engine for me. As easy as it is, there's a lot of shops that slap stuff together and send it down the road. A warranty sucks if you have to use it cause you'll have to pull engine AGAIN.

If you're located in Tucson area, I couldn't recommend Racers Edge enough. That shop REALLY knows their stuff. They mainly do ATVs but he's got a CNC to customize your heads, as well as standard stuff to balance & blueprint engines. He has lots of experience with 5.0L Ford Coyote engines as well as the 3rd Gen Chevy stuff / LS. Potentially another one worth having ship you a motor if they'll do that.

This entire post should be considered parenthetical ...
Every 4.8L & 5.3L should have been a different state of 'detune' for a 6.0L.

Think about this:
if the 400 horse 6.0L LS2 is a cheaper version of the 405 horse 5.7L LS6,

1) what is the 345 horse LQ9, or the 330 horse LQ4, compared to the LS2?
Oh, forgot the lunkhead LQ4, basically a stronger LM7 that makes damn close to same power.

2a) IFF you are a patient levelheaded lightfoot driver who generally tries not to waste fuel,
it's very likely a 6.0L will get similar if not BETTER MpG under the restraint of your wise foot.
2b) If you are an impatient steamheaded leadfoot (like myself), a 6.0L would do one of two things:
either you'd become a more patient more levelheaded lighterfooted driver (always an option), or
or you'd get more SMILES per gallon because you'd have a stronger engine.

Remember that every engine spends the vast majority of its time UNDER 3500RpM,
where any 6.0L could easily be confused for a mildly detuned cheaper version of an LS1.

Something to ponder ...
