.. seen this calibration procedure for Dorman on ROCKAUTO

Different than OEM? no mention of VIN programming.
Same part number for a 09 tahoe vs 13 silverado.

I am GUESSING maybe bad module, OR need VIN programming like other GM modules?
(is the fuel pump module normally a VIN programmed part? but not the Dorman?)

Since there are no codes, I don't think it's anything a tuner can disable. (looking through the DTC's, most xfer case module codes are set to 'no error reported' except for loss of communication with transfer case module on the ECM side, which is 'MIL on second error'...

Thanks. The calibration procedure is to learn the actuator motor for the proper movements for each position. That all is working fine - I can get 4-low and everything else.

Yeah, I got excited when I read your post yesterday about the change in protocol. In thinking about it afterwards, I came to the same conclusion that that is probably not it. Possibly you're correct on bad module. I am considering ordering a different module from eBay, but that is an expensive guess if it doesn't change anything. I'm just at a loss as to why others on this site have done the same conversion and not had any problems. (earlier in this thread Tozan confirmed that his remote start still works.)

Looking at the cardone brand on rockauto, it says "vehicle specific programming required ON the vehicle."

While not cheap, a new Dorman module looks to be $120 after you return core..
I'm thinking not a whole lot more than having a dealer reprogram.
(I'd pay that to avoid going to the dealer!)

Return it if it doesn't work. Send the core in if it does work.

(unless the Dorman requires programming too, hopefully they bypassed the VIN programming..)

you probably know all of this already but I looked just out curiously. shame there's no fault code saved.

the 08 ecm split is interesting thou. I run into that with my 08 c6. it's got the e38 ecm too. the lower year split isn't as well defined in hptuners, especially the injectors data tables, which of course I have bigger flex injectors. for that I've had to fudge number for and always wonder if they are correct enough. some off set tables don't even work and the 08 to 09 split goes along with the z55 active shock split. I've wanted to retrofit the active shocks onto mine ever since the gm engineer that setup the c6 zr1 shock tables they ran the ring lap with retired and opened his own business flashing his custom settings into the older cars, but only the never 09 and up split. being 08 I've wondered if I could make it work. all the part numbers are the same, but the software, firmware or something must be different after 08 even if they both seem to run the same engine combos. there was someone on the hptuners board that mention a guy doing a full write to a 09 and newer e38 ecm and installing it on a 08 or older car. but I could never find details about. I'm not even 100% sure a full write with hptuners is the same as a full write with gm software. I believe it's not.


anyways, interesting problem to have. personally I'd probably use it as an excuse to go aftermarket full push button leave the fob in your pocket remote start setup. I'd already have done that kit on mine as my wife hates hates hates having to use a key in the ign, and I hear about it weekly haha but I have a hybrid one and they already have enough wiring issues, I don't want to add any more reasons it might not start haha.

I have read, a full write with HPtuners does not write the base OS.
If you had a new transmission module that had no programming whatsoever, hptuners cannot make it work.
Need GM programming first, before HPtuners programming.
Have also read, sometimes a new part from GM has base program, sometimes not.

So question is, in that list of things that prevents remote start from working, which one is related to the TCCM?

I've definitely been thinking about aftermarket. I'd probably just go basic though, keep key ignition, factory fobs with 3x push to remote start. But I'm just OCD enough that I want to do what I can to get the factory system to work. Something is not working right and I want to figure out what it is. Plus, I've wondered if aftermarket system would be stopped by the ECM crank abort flag I'm getting? Or would the aftermarket be inserted downstream of that point and not care about the message?

I found these guys on a google search today: https://gmflash.com Anyone heard of or used them? I wrote them a message asking if they could either reprogram my old TCCM for 4-low and neutral OR could they VIN program my new TCCM. And would that actually solve the problem.

I don't think it's any of those things. All the door, liftgate, hood and security functions are registering correctly when being monitored with Tech 2. I just think it's something mismatched between the TCCM, ECM, BCM.
