do you think i can cut the pipe just after the muffler and remove everything back from there after the muffler??? then just put a deflector directing the exhaust downward

You can but it's going to drone pretty bad in your Denali like that along with exhaust fumes in your ride when you're idling. It's best to be sure it's dumped at least past the rear axle.

You can do that and that's what I've done. It's essentially a second muffler of sorts.

I had my resonator removed and a nice stainless steel tip welded in its place. Doesn't sound much different but looks a lot better.

^^this....I originally did the same thing with the SLP resonator delete kit and it looked good but after a while I wanted to switch it up again and took it back off and now I'm just dumped right after the rear axle. I also have a Magnaflow muffler to give it a little bit more sound but got a muffler that is pretty mild as not to create much drone in the cab and you really only know it's on there when you hit the gas to pass someone. Otherwise inside the vehicle it sounds close to stock.
