Ok, so the decision has been made to repaint the entire truck as soon as the weather breaks 70 and holds. Truck will be repainted red and removing the silver this time around. Also dont plan on priming it since overall the truck and body is in good shape and just needs a good sanding.

I have decided on a single stage paint process since this truck is 16yrs old and I dont need a top of the line paint job.

I have been looking at a few kits on line and I am leaning towards Summits Kit or the kit offered from TCP Global.

Just wondering who has had experience with these kind of kits and what your thoughts are.

Either will work well. The key to the whole process is prep, prep and more prep. 90% of a good paint job is the prep work and getting everything perfect prior to spraying. If you do that, you'll be happy with your results. :waytogo:

Yea this I know. I already started sanding down my roof and my hood and front fenders. I am going to have to spot prime some areas. I also have to pull a dent out and do some body work where some stupid kids threw a log at my quarter panel. Might just have my friends body shop do that for me.

I also heard with the single stage that you dont have to paint the entire vehicle in one shot. Is this true?

Lucky for me my dad use to paint boats and cars and he is giving me a hand since he is repainting his boat soon also.

...about the sand paper, you need to use a very fine grit and get it extremely smooth before you paint. If you don't, the "grooves" left by the rougher paper will show through on your paint job.

I would go with 600 grit wet if was you. any more coarse without primer and youll see sand scratches, and more finer and you wont get proper adhesion. GL

I was planning on using 600, this is what I usually use when I paint anything.

I meant in "one shot" because there is no color matching since it is single stage and no flake going into the paint. I could be wrong. I am just use to my cars having a little bit of flake in them and they always get sprayed in one sitting.

Not necessarily.

But going back to your paint brand options.. wouldn't suggest summit or TCP, get something a little better if you can afford it..

Its like going to Walmart for fruits and vegtables instead of Giant eagle or a higher brand grocery store.. Walmarts look decent in the store, take them home and the rot faster then you can blink your eye. Giant eagle on the other hand, there stuff can last weeks....

Not sure how that all made sense, but your better off buying something a little better in the paint scale.. Dupont or something along those lines.. Do it once, and do it right

I have seen the Summit paint and it looks pretty damn good. Also I heard a rumor that the Summit stuff is essentially DuPont just with Summits name on it. Dont know how true that is.

Like I said the truck is 16yrs old, I am not looking for a kick ass paint job, just something that is better than what I have now. I hate the two tone look and the faded paint.
