So I determined that my big P/S leak was coming from the two lines that run to and from the Hydroboost unit up by the firewall, attached to the brake booster. Bought them both (new AC Delco units from Rock Auto) and attempted to replace over the weekend.

The line going from Hydroboost to the steering box was simple enough to replace. It seems secure in the steering box but there are a few threads still exposed on the nut that secures it. I used a new o-ring on both ends of the line, and it doesn't look to be leaking at all. Is it okay that the nuts aren't threaded all the way down? I cranked on 'em until they were tight.

The line going from Hydroboost to the power steering pump seemed incredibly difficult to remove. I couldn't figure out how to get my wrench on the end of it at the pump. Impossible to do from the engine bay. Was able to get the wrench on it by working underneath, but then the various steering components were in my way and I couldn't actually move the wrench to loosen at all.

Wondering if anyone could offer tips on removing that one line, and confirm that some thread showing is okay. Thanks!

Just replaced my hydro boost in a 2004 Z71 tahoe last night and yes those power steering lines are ok, there are going to be a few threads showing, as long as you installed new O-rings on them.
