Hey guys. I have a 2002 Tahoe w/o bose and my subwoofer just stopped working recently. Sometimes it sounds like there is no bass, and other times like the speaker is just rattling and not making any real sounds. So I was wondering if just getting another factory sub for 70 is worth it, or should I just buy a Kicker CVT8 and amp? And if i do get an aftermarket sub how would i go about installing it?

I just put a KICKER Comp 8-Inch Subwoofer in the factory location and only paid $50 from amazon. The box itself needs a little modification to where the sub mounts but that's it.
I'm running it off a aftermarket amp, so I'm not sure how it will sound using the factory amp.

What modifications did you end up having to do exactly?

I didn't have to do any modifications to mine, mounting holes were the same. I am curious as to what you had to do as well.

What sub are you using and where did you install the amp?
It's my first time doing this on my own and want to get it right.

I used an Image Dynamics 8" subwoofer. I screwed my amp directly to the box, on the right hand side. It fits nicely and doesn't obstruct the trim panel at all.

Whats it sound like? I have the bose sub in mine and want to replace with either the tahoe 8 probably the same sub or the thunderform 10". i have a polk mm1040 in a under the seat box now and it sounds really good in the back hatch (it bottoms out on the floor under the seat)

It's ok I went from 2 12s. The sound is surprising for that small speaker. The mod to the box was just around the outer edge of the flange were the speaker sits. It took only 10 minutes with a right angle die grinder.
