I replaced the right side last year. The job went pretty smooth. I've read-up on the repair in my Haynes manual and they said to remove the hub bolt and drive axles and stub shaft. Seems like a lot of extra work.
Can't you just remove the flange bolts and push the drive axle out of the way to gain access to the axle shaft and slide hammer that out?
Also the seal is in front of the bearings. Can't you just remove the seal and leave the bearings in-place?
