Replacing muffler only 6.2L engine

Seeing if anyone did this yet. Seeing the escalade has 3 inch exhaust I think from factory no use spending 600-1000 for a cat back.

Im going to just replace the stock muffler only and then get rid of resonator and do a turn down behind rear bumper.

Seeing if anyone did this and is the stock cat back 3 or 3.5 inches?

Are you looking for just sound quality? I dont think there is much performance to be had over the stock system. Hell, even stock, our 6.2 sounds awesome..

I just replaced my muffler on my 07 escalade ext with a magnaflow muffler. Sounds good but not loud enough in my opinion. Going to take it back in to get the resonator taken out. It is just slightly louder than stock. I agree though, replacing the whole system for an overpriced cat back system seemed unjustified considering the stock system is 3.5" and is stainless. I just wanted it a bit louder and figured the magnaflow flow through design would be good for a bit more power (not much I know). I did a 3.5" in/out muffler by the way. Can't recall the part number but they only make a few with that pipe size.

I know the resonator takes a lot and with 3.5 stock (havnet checked mine yet it comes in tomm) thats more than enough.

One thing from my trailblazer ss by removing the stock resonator and doing a 4x9x14 was horrible drone. Moving to a 5x8x30 (24 inch long muffler) sounded good not to loud.

I do think the stock set up is offset/center design.

if so here is one

not to hijack, but Im looking into replacing the factory muffler with a Mellotone, which is a flowmaster knock-off, (just for the sound) and was thinking about leaving the resonator to hopefully eliminate the drone. Is that thinking correct? I know I will get some drone, just trying to get a bit of sound, but not too much drone. Thanx!

Just my opinion but I think the flowmaster sound will give you some drone. If you leave the resonator on it will definitely help. It's purely a matter of taste but I think the flowmater sound isn't right for this kind of truck. Too raspy IMO.
Update:
My Magnaflow has 'broken in' and sounds awesome. I don't think I will take the resonator out anymore as I like how it sounds. I guess after a bit of time the material in the muffler gets packed in and produces a less muffled sound.

the resonator i removed it barly made the truck louder. The resonator is solid inside only a little hole in the middle check it out.

NORCAL, i did the single in and dual out on my ESV with turn downs behind the axle. Dunno if i angled it wrong but it was loud as f$ck. Took it off cuz the kids couldnt hear there movies in the truck. I used the 50 series muffler. Gonna try Borla next....we will see.
