When replacing a stock amp (on a non-Bose 2001 Yukon XL), is it possible to use the power and ground connections from the original amp?

Or do I have to run a new cable to the battery?

My goal is to install a 5 channel amp where the original amp currently sits in order to power the door speakers and the subwoofer.

Has anyone done this?

Personally, I would run a dedicated amp for the sub. I would also run new power and ground.

the factory amp power wiring is only intended to be used for a low power oem amplifier, you will want to run a thicker gauge power wire and a ground, the rest of the factory wire going to the speakers is fine to use. a aftermarket 5 channel amp could effectively melt the factory power wires then you will have a big headache because when they melt they melt into other wires in places you may not be able to see or easily access.

My 5 channel uses a 4 gauge power and ground. You will need to run a dedicated power wire to any aftermarket amp. I have a Kenwood X801-5 and I mounted it in the storage pocket on the drivers side in the trunk.

Where is the factory amp in your truck? In hindsight, I probably could have mounted mine in the console.
