We have them (family of 5) and have never once been hit in the shins. You have to back away to open the door anyhow, so I dont understand how you could get hit by them. My 3 year old son who seems to get hurt every fifteen minutes has avoided them. I agree that I (6'1") dont need them, but they are a neccessity for my young kids and short wife. Nothing looks as good at the power retractalbe boards, as well it has that cool factor too. And as far as the maintenace costs goes, the entire assembly is expensive to buy, but a single part that breaks or wears isn't much to replace. Having said that tho, it was the one option that I could have skipped but it came pacakaged with the adaptive cruise control, which I couldn't skip!!

They are awesome and can't understand how one would get hit in the shins.
I guess if you stand right up tight against your truck while opening the door, maybe.
I for one am never parked to any vehicle that tight= door dings.

They are definitely a 10 when it comes to bling factor. Everyone loves the power boards and it's the first thing my wife shows everyone!

They work great for myself 6'4", wife 5'1" and the teenage kids. I actually love them. I don't use them getting in, but do when exiting. I have my exit functions set to raise and telescope the steering wheel, have the seat come forward and elevate. I then can step out onto the board while exiting. This imo saves the seats from that sag they get from going on and off the seat for years. It also keeps my legs clean if the truck is wet/dirty.

I think they are much more functional than the fixed mount boards which only allow you to use half your foot.

And how cool is it too place the truck in park and with the push of a button make them lower and raise? :)

One thing that no one has mentioned is that you can also shut them off and leave them in retracted I live in a very dark area and the extra lighting will help insure nobody gets hurt getting in or out of the vehicle that said we're buying two one we just ordered and another one will be ordered in July

I stood next to our Denali tonight and tried to see if they would hit me in the chins.
Nada
I guess you need to actually walk up and hug the truck for them to hit. I love my Denali but seriously. lol
I can't see how they hit you in the chins unless you open a door while you are literally half tucked under the vehicle.

Someone else try to hit their chins. I just can't see it.

Ordered my 2015 Denali so I could get retractable running boards and ACC - love both except would like longer following distance options with ACC. Running boards move out and down making entry for kids and smaller or older adults much easier. Never been banged in the shin. My first Yukon with them and I find them convenient.

Have loved my retractable boards since day 1 and especially for the look. However, just recently the drivers side board is starting to act up. Sometimes comes down slow, or will come down and go right back up, or stays down and won't come up. No rhyme or reason so I'll have the dealer look at it. I've got about 1.5 years on my boards now (25K miles).

My salesman said only to run 87 octane in my Denali, nothing more.
The engine went into service mode and wouldn't go above 30 mph 2 days after filling up. After a gas cap check, the only thing that fixed it was filling up with 93. I don't trust car dealerships to do anything but sell cars. Nothing more...

Have them and love them....Never heard or got complaints from any family members banging shins. Great for kids too.. Zero maintence or problems. Love their lighted effects as well!!! One of my favorite things about the truck....

The only complaint I have with mine is that they are speed activated. There are times when backing up the boat I open the door and put my foot on the floor board maybe to get the ball that last two inches. Suckers retract when you start to move even with the door open. Scares the heck out of me. Hopefully I can retrain myself not to do that.
