I’ve seen a few posts on here about people replacing their front shocks with aftermarket (Arnott, etc) and getting an increase in front end height. Is there a benefit or negative to reusing the original springs over new shocks?

New springs hold more weight than old springs. When mine were replaced, the truck came up about 1/4 inch on average at each corner. Doesn't seem like much but the suspension was zero timed and there are no rubbing issues to worry about if running maximum width tires.

Truck was beginning to sag with a load on, no sag with new rear springs with even more tongue weight on.

I would say that my truck was lifted about 1/2", when I replaced all 4 springs at 130,000 miles.

The obvious benefit is price. The negatives are labor and having to rent or borrow a spring compressor as well as what’s already mentioned.

When I replaced my front strut springs on my 07 Yukon XL Denali, GM had already discontinued the manufacture of that spring. So, I used a Moog front spring that had a matching cross-reference to the original GM spring.
I was thinking they had discontinued them. I'm going to rebuild the front end on the avalanche soon and I'm thinking I should replace the springs so the electronic struts work like new
