The "check oil level" warning shows up on my dash. I get out and check it and the dip stick is dry. I look all around the top, sides and bottom with no signs of a leak. Where did my oil go??? Now I'm walking to the parts store to buy more oil.

Sounds like the typical 5.3 oil consumption issue. How long has it been since your last oil change or since you last checked the levels?

That's crazy.

Need you to keep better tabs on this thing. Still under warranty?

I thought we were friends Nate! It's the 4.8 and it's only about 3200 miles into the last oil change. I normally go 5000 because 95% of my driving is highway.

And no warranty. 140xxx miles on it. Haven't had any other issues.

Have you noticed oil consumption prior to this?

Nope. This is new. I'm a little concerned. I don't check it every time I gas up but some times I do. Never noticed anything out of the ordinary.

Do you change your own oil? Could it be possible that you might have shorted yourself a quart on the last oil change? My denali is usually a quart low by the time I do an oil change and that's usually after 4000-4500 miles into the oil change! If you were a quart short from last time then that would make sense why it doesn't even register on the dipstick.

The last time the oil was changed, Chevy did it. I normally do it myself. You mean to tell me that if it's only one quart low it won't show on the dipstick and I'll get the warning on the DIC?

I think it actually requires you to be 2 quarts low before it starts not showing up on the dip stick and the warning shows up on your DIC
