So, I just got my Hoe back from the shop. Long story short, I had leaky axle & pinion seals that ruined the rear brakes. Additionally my 140k mile axle & Pinion bearings needed some attention too.

After reviewing situation, we discussed the pinion bearing wear and the "Out-Degree" the pinion gear is on the Ring. It's been out for a LONG time and has worn a new pattern into both the Ring & Pinion gears. Plus the bearings for the axles closest to the pumpkin caused some slight shifts in the carrier that made it really hard to shim back into place(but it's close enough for the time being)

With all this said, we determined that it's good for now, but within the next 30k miles, I should look to replace the carrier, spider gears, Ring, Pinion and Shims to basically get everything back to factory spec.

Side note: My mechanic is good, and knows the history of the truck for the last several years and just serviced a ton of stuff about 6months ago. I totally trust them and their word on all of the work, so whether or not this sounds like BS, it's really not. It's probably just my lack of writing skillz to convey the proper terms and condition of everything!

SO, the question I pose to everyone here:
Spend my money and make some recommendations on the following items:
- Carrier for Rear Axle
- New Spider Gears -OR- Limited Slip unit
- New Ring & Pinion Set (If gear change, Front & Rear are needed)
- Gear Ratio change (currently 3.42)

I have NO preferences on Name brands, or products. This is new territory for me!

Parts are going to be purchased over a few months as I just bought a home and am picking my financial battles.

Thanks,
MWNT

That's a tough call. It would be nice if you could swap-out the whole works and replace it with a 00-06 coil spring unit. Take it to your local 4x4 off road center maybe they have some suggestions.

If you are tough on teh truck look for a 14 bolt. If the 10 bolt is enough get it fixed with stock stuff. Could look int swaping gears now too, maybe like 4.10 or something...front too.

I like my Yukon gears, run them in both trucks along with a trutrac in both trucks. Yukon axles also

Stock carrier is fine unless you are looking for a locker or something ...
