...in my 2016 Tahoe LTZ. Insurance dude and Chevy dealer both say forward-facing camera needs to be "recalibrated" after new glass is installed. Safelite glass dude says no recalibration necessary. Both lane keep assist and auto-dim seem to work fine.

Anybody get theirs recalibrated? Anybody avoid it?
Its a hassle to have to go to the dealer, and I'd rather avoid it.

I’ve had my windshield replaced and did not have anything recalibrated afterwards. No issues so far and I’m at least 15k miles past when it was replaced.

gm always will tell you things need to be recalibrated. most of the time just disconnect the battery before you start. just stealership nonsense after one recall on my Pontiac didnt work they told me my brake switch would need to be replaced and recalibrated. gave me some retarded price to do it since it wasn't covered under the recall. did it myself and asked my gm mechanic friend. he told me most of the time thats all they do anyway since it does the same thing as thier scan tool.

Thanks, everyone. My camera seems to be "calibrated" just fine. I'll pass on getting dealership involved. Last time they changed my oil, they said I needed a $169.95 "injection system flush."
I passed on that as well.

I had ours replaced last year and the glass shop had to keep it an extra day to have a trained tech come and recalibrate (independent glass shop). They ate the additional $50 to have it done. Something to do with the sensors in the glass area above the review mirror. I'm guessing it would be fine without but maybe it's a more of a confirmation procedure to ensure the distance related stuff with lane departure warning system is still correct.

We bought our '16 used and when we did, the rainsense did not work. Took it to the dealer and they would not touch it, it didn't have a stock GM windshield. They wouldn't even check their end of the system, just "nope." I went home, popped the covers off of the mirror, re-seated the gooey, sticky thing/camera using common sense and tested it. It worked. So, I imagine that their "calibration" is just making sure that things are lined up correctly. If it is working, I'd say you're good.

I don't remember exactly but I know it had something to do with distance monitoring for lane detection. I'm sure 99% of the time it's not necessary. When i priced it out for replacement all three places mentioned having to need a tool to calibrate.

Yep you do absolutely need a tool to re-calibrate it. ........either pliers, wrench, socket or something to take the battery terminals off and put back on... and tighten.

I asked a good friend who is a mechanic at the chevy dealership. that's what he told me.
