So be careful out there Mark!
Yep, it’s supposed to get to 120 in The Dalles today which in about 60 miles east of here, in the Columbia River Gorge. It tends to run hotter there anyway but not 120 hot. East of the Cascades the heat dome is staying in place. We got lucky in the valley- the winds shifted to blowing in from the west off the ocean. Last night when I took the dog for a walk at 8:30 it was really blowing and I could feel the temp drop. This morning I was able to open the house up and cool it down. The prior 2 nights it only cooled to about 85 at night, also all-time records. It always cools down at night here, usually to 65. It really sucked to wake up and the house is 85 even with my portable ac unit going all night, and I couldn’t even open the house up to cool it.

Ac unit have an intake hose, or only exhaust?

Only exhaust. I have a big box fan that I put in a window, so it either pulls from outside or pushes outside depending on which way I turn it. It creates a pretty flow through.

I found the receipt for the battery. I bought it 7/20/15. It’s a 36 month Duracell from Batteries Plus. It’s probably not the problem but I’ve been thinking about replacing it for about a year. I remember last winter a time or two the truck wouldn’t start even though it only sat a couple days at a time. Maybe heat is causing an issue since cold was having an effect, who knows. It’s definitely time to replace it though and I have heard how a bad battery sometimes does weird things to these trucks. I’m looking at an Interstate AGM like I bought for my other truck. I have to call tomorrow to see if their distributor has one.

An exhaust only portable ac is incapable of cooling a house outside of its immediate area. They’re always pulling air to them and into the house.

Makes sense. I just bought it to cool my great room off a bit. Next year when prices go back to earth I’m gonna add central AC. In a few weeks I’m having a guy install a new furnace with provisions to add the AC later. My furnace is 20+ years old.

Well it’s not the battery. Figures, that would be too easy. I replaced it and went for a half hour drive and everything was fine. I just went to the store and it got stuck in third again. No weird lights this time when I manually shifted into first though. I was able to shift manually 1-3, not sure if it’s going into fourth. No code yet.

I wonder if there's something in the valve body that's causing a blockage. Like that silicone/rev issue you had.

Pretty sure it’s electrical otherwise it wouldn’t shift manually, from my little knowledge this seems to be correct. If I’m wrong about that assumption somebody please correct me. The trans was completely gone through and rebuilt after that issue also, there should be no silicone in there. The fluid looked good and clean.
One thing I can note after today is it doesn’t appear to be heat related because on the first test drive earlier today I drove it until the trans was warmed up and it didn’t fail but later after it cooled down I drove it maybe 1/4 mile- the trans temp was still at the bottom of the gauge- and it failed.
The issue with the battery light, seat belt light, and stereo rebooting might be the ignition switch. I went out a little while ago and was messing around with it running in the driveway, dropping the shifter lever down into first and back to park and one time the engine died. It might be the fob hanging and being knocked by the shift lever. I wiggled the ignition a few times and it seemed iffy, like it was possibly intermittent. One time I barely touched it and the engine stopped and then restarted without missing a beat. I hate throwing parts at it but things like the 6 year old battery and now the ignition switch are maintenance items anyway. I ordered a new Standard switch (with harness) from Rock Auto while I can still get one. Seems there are parts for this year that are becoming hard to find. The 99-02 stuff is different than the 03-06. The OE one is discontinued. I have noticed before that the steering wheel controls can quit if I use the tilt on the steering wheel and that’s part of the ignition switch harness. I doubt that’s the issue with the trans but i can still eliminate it.
I wonder if the trans wiring harness runs near the headers. Possibly wiring that’s heat damaged. There’s still lots if stuff to check unfortunately.
I also have to remember to grab a data log and send it to BB; I just put the Autocal in the console so next time it acts up I can pull over and plug it in.
I just resigned to the fact it may take awhile to figure this out. Intermittent electrical problems are my least favorite thing to troubleshoot. At least at this point it points to an electrical problem.
