07 Tahoe LTZ,
I removed the sliding bars from my roof rack, I never have had any use for the roof rack, IMHO they are not good for much for what I use the truck for...
It was pretty easy, a T25 torx screwdriver an I was able to remove the front ones to slide off the bars.
It got me thinking, If I completely removed the rails from the roof, there are 10 bolts that hold down everything, obviously if I removed the rack I should put bolts or plugs into the holes to keep water from getting into the nuts, and to keep it from leaking.
I did not try it, but I was hoping someone has...
If I remove the roof rails, and put bolts into the holes to keep them from getting water in the holes:
1) Are the nuts simply pass through, or do they have a bottom?
2) Are the factory bolts too long and would bottom out, or should I get shorter bolts to cap them off?
Either way I would want to put something in the holes to keep water out, I used some silicone caulk to use as a thread-locker when I put it back together. They seemed rather loose when I took it apart..
3) What have others done when removing the racks?
John
