Rotor warping

We bought our 2007 suburban at 125k and are now up to 188k. I've already replaced the rotors all once and ow the fronts a 2nd time. The rears must be warped again too. Getting a lot of brakes pulsing. This time I choose not to install auto parts store chunk and got Delco rotors off Amazon.

I haven't tried hawk pads yet. What are the benefits of them. Can they help with rotor life? It seems like my rotors get warped before even wearing thru a set of pads.

Is it really worth it to spend 500 on cyro rotors? Also with the miles on our 07 would it be worth it to replace the calipers? After 4 years we still really enjoy the 07 and it still is great to drive with the exception of the brake pulsing.

Most of the time, the rotor isn't actually warped. It's pad material burned into a certain part that creates a high spot. Best to closely follow a bedding procedure from the past manufacturer, whether it be hawk or other.

Ok thanks appreciate it and your saying pads like hawks will less like that problem. I never put much research into buying pads before but never put as many miles on the same vehicle before either.

Warped rotors is slang for brake material accumulation. Being able to drive a vehicle with this much mass like a midsize car WILL compromise the brakes quickly. Our OE pads & rotors worked beautifully up until the last 30% of their life. All 4 rotors pulsed like a mofo after only 22k of normal use.

The OE pads / rotors work well but are messy and short lived. The OE pad compound WILL deposit on a the rotors after a few panic stops. You can’t change physics, the OE equipment can’t keep up with the new ceramic pad technology. Slotted and / or drilled rotors will eliminate the material build up (warping) by allowing the rotors to wipe themselves clean on every rotation.

We chose Stoptech because they were 1) anodized 2) x drilled plus slotted 3) highly recommend on the forum 4) the price point is unbeatable 5) the “warping” is resolved by proven rotor upgrade technology. We run stoptech drill / slotted and Bosch ceramics on our 08 Denali XL AWD. We’ve never looked back.

Thanks I appreciate the information. I've looked at a lot of conversation about rotors but most I have heard about upgrading is in stopping power and not much on life span.

I have been so focused on the right rotor but I seems I have been overlooking the importance of quality pads. The more miles I put in this rig the more I am staying away from the corner auto parts stores!

cheap brakes give cheap short lived results, buy the premium rotors and premium ceramic pads from almost any brand and they will work better and last longer, you don't have to go buy $500 rotors, you can just get the better quality stuff from the corner auto parts store and your brakes will be fine. I get mine from autozone there premium rotors are under $100 and have a 2 year warranty and there premium ceramic pads are like $69-79 bucks with a "lifetime" warranty, never have to buy pads again and rotors generally last over the 2yrs, there brakes work fantastic and last me twice as long as the OEM ac delco, everytime I think about "upgrading" to some $1500-2000 brake setup or more, I think is it REALLY worth it? no, especially when you have to go buy "there pads" a year later for $250 no thank you

Not into dropping 500 just into rotors. I can't remember store I last bought their store brand rotors but rusted to pieces and made a huge mess. I have all Delco rotors back on the suburban now. I have just mid grade parts store pads now I'm sure on it. Front rotors are a few months old and rears less than 2 years . Brake pulsing has gotten worse again. I might try some more premium ceramic pads.

I purchased from R1. I put together my list and called to build a custom kit. The rep was incredibly patient and thorough, going over every part number, etc. I bought :

Gmt900 fronts w/ geomet drilled/slotted rotors, their top pad (new product, OE select or something, they are a ceramic based compound), and hardware kits.

GMT800 rears w/ geomet drilled/slotted rotors, OE select pads, hardware kit, parking brake shoes and hardware.

Total $435. Full disclosure, he gave me a holiday sale code on the package. Was $512 before discount.

Note: I drive a gmt800 truck.

i also went with R1's, got the E line drilled and slotted kit with their ceramic scorched pads.

these are all i run on every thing i own now. for about 200 bucks shipped off their ebay store you will be very happy. for the price, they stop better then oem, and seem to last a good while too. i dont have any horrid brake dust storys either. its rather light if any.
