Rough shift from 1st to 2nd

i have a 2000 Tahoe and it shifts fine, but if i get on the interstate for a bit then get back into town the shifting is hard from 1st to 2nd.
Will a simple filter and fluid change help this problem or am i prob looking at a more expensive fix?

Sounds more like a stuck valve in the valve body assuming you are describing truly a hard shift and not a slip. The first thing I would do is go somewhere where there is no traffic to bother you. Under very normal acceleration to 60mph from a dead stop count the shifts to make sure all gears are there. 1st thru OD. If that checks good then you will probably need a valve body service. Check all accumulator springs, Servo too. A busted accumulator spring will cause a hard shift. Has it been checked to see if its throwing any codes?
