It’s been cold and nasty here but warmed today.

My running boards got stuck last night half way up. They just will not budge. I don’t see any ice or snow. When I drove I cops hear the motor trying to raise it.

Any suggestions on what to try?

Thank you

Both my motors and sensors went out on my Silverado’s running boards at 30,000 miles. Thankfully under warranty still got fixed for free

Take it to a pressure wash carwash and hit all the joints from all angles. If that doesn't do it, you have a mechanical issue...

Thank you all

Lubed them up and will let sit over night. Doesn’t even make a sound tho when I open door

Unfortunate lesson if it won’t work. I’ll try to spray them down as well otherwise take it in as need oil anyways

OP,
Let us know how it goes, I’m in MA too. With the freezing mess we had recently, I think I heard my boards struggle to open and fold up. I literally parked my Denali in the sun all day on Sunday to let the ice melt.

They wouldn’t budge. Turned truck on. Tried to deploy. Opened door. Nothing. Made sure nothing was obstructing them and was not thrilled.

Hopped in to go for a drive and boom. Up they go. They’ve worked perfect now all afternoon. Ha.

Lesson learned tho. In nasty slush and freezing conditions and ice storms. I’ll leave em up. Thanks for the tips I will keep them lined up in general tho

I just got my 2022 Denali with powered boards and really wish I could have gotten all of the same packages without them. I have had powered boards on multiple trucks and they are nothing more than a nuisance long term. in the summer, try to see if you can feed some lithium grease into the joints and then coat the outer edges of the joints with axle grease. Regardless of how you maintain them though they are destined to fail at some point.

I used WD-40 Specialist Silicone spray on all the hinges. Never use straight up WD-40 as an lubricant it collects dirt!
