I recently purchased a 2001 Tahoe LT & the previous owner only gave me one broken, useless key fob. Rather than spending the money on replacement key fobs, I would like to just install a good aftermarket alarm. What are my options when doing this? Should I just get the key fobs and leave well enough alone?

I like the Viper 3105V.

Can I just remove the dash & get to the OEM keyless entry module & use the factory wiring at that point? Thanks!

Just my 02 cents and not to knock after market alarms but i personally never liked them tho i had one back in 07 on my yukon it felt cheap and cheesey and always had issues with the door locks not getting a strong enough signal maybe now they are better i had a viper i believe may i just had a cheap kit but thats my opinion i would just replace the fob

Wow! Here I am thinking that Viper made good alarms. Where is the the best (cheapest) place to get the replacement key fobs?

Prestige would be your best bang for the buck.

I bought my replacement fog from ebay for $23.00 shipped. Worked wonderful and still have it. Here is a link

Me personally, I went with a aftermarket. Just for the extra security...louder alarm, kill switch etc etc. they also come with a higher range for locking and unlocking (stormy days unlock from the house and haul ass to the truck) lol. But there also isn't anything wrong with the oem fob. It all comes down to personal preference and what your trying to protect. if they want bad enough theyre gonna get it. And viper is just a name that they slap on the alarm. The actual company is called directed electronics. 3 different names under the company and all have the same insides. (Brains fobs etc etc etc.

the new viper alarms are awesome. just finished the 5704 on my civic and i have had the 5901 on my tahoe for a couple years now. the 5704 is basically the exact same as the 5901 with a couple of updates. i have one remote for both vehicles. if the alarm install is done right, they are worlds better than the oem alarm. especially if you add a couple extra sensors. proximity, glass break, and tilt sensors are the best ones. add a back up battery and your set.

alarms on 00-02 tahoes are cake. but install is absolutely everything when it comes to aftermarket alarms. i do them all myself so i know they are good. the best alarm is one you don't even know is there. you would never know i had an alarm even if you took my dash apart.
